Southwind now available for electronic delivery - Monday, February 06, 2012

Well folks we finally made it. The March Southwind will be the first issue to be available for electronic delivery. If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to "opt-out" of the paper version as it will save the Society money that can be directed to more productive things, from this point forward our corporate office has assumed all printing and mailing costs. To opt-out please go to www.sca.org and click on the "Opt Out Form" link. If you have questions about the the e-newsletters I encourage you to look at the following link as it will show you what the e-newsletter website will look like as well as have the answers to many of the questions that are being asked, http://www.sca.org/BOD/announcements/E-NewsFAQs.pdf. I feel the most exciting part is that those who receive an electronic newsletter will now have access to all of the Kingdom newsletters, making traveling to other Kingdoms' events easier. **I would like to remind everybody that the deadline for the Southwind remains the 1st of the month preceding the issue it needs to appear in. For example, the deadline for the March Southwind is February 1. There is no leeway in this deadline as my time to get the final copy to the Society Publishing Manager is a hard date.** Now, I would like to take a brief moment and thank everybody who helped me these last few months to reduce printing costs that we did have to pay to get to this historic point by folding, stapling, mailing, or the multitude of other tasks that were required in getting the Southwind out each month. Everyone of these people deserves my my most heartfelt gratitude. I couldn't have done it without them.

The SCA 2010 Census is now LIVE! - Sunday, August 01, 2010

The SCA is us — you and me doing what we do. But who are we, what do we do, and how can we support each other to make the SCA the type of organization we can be proud of?

The SCA 2010 Census committee has been asked by the Board of Directors to develop a census-level survey that will help us to address key issues facing the SCA. These issues affect our everyday experience in the SCA; from "pay for participation" issues and award structures to quantitative, qualitative, motivational, and behavioral demographics such as age, gender, activities and interest areas, and reasons for joining, remaining in, and leaving the SCA.

Because this is a "census-level" survey, we are attempting to reach each and every SCA participant, regardless of whether or not they are paid members or are currently active. Everyone's voice is important to the success of this project.

This information will help us, as an organization, move forward into the next decade, to identify, address and work on current issues and gain a better, deeper understanding into what makes the SCA what it is today. Your responses to these questions will also help us create a plan for making the SCA better organization in the future. The only way we can understand what is important is by hearing from you.

The survey is completely anonymous, you will never be asked for information that will identify you.

The Survey will remain open until December 1st. Once the data collection is completed, the results of this survey will be made available on the SCA 2010 Census website. Non-Member Surcharge Rates go up after July - Thursday, June 03, 2010

At its January meeting, the Board voted to increase the non-member surcharge (NMS) from $3 US to $5 US, effective July 1, 2010. The complete text of the Board's announcement can be found at http://www.scatoday.net/node/15030.

"It must be noted first and foremost- the projected break-even budget for 2010 is based on one critical change; membership rates will be increase by $2, effective July 1, 2010. This will be matched with a $2 increase in the NMS. We in no way want to discourage new participants from "trying us out", however, the Board feels strongly that participating non members should also contribute to the organization."
